Meet Kellie

Kellie Bentley is an accredited primary school teacher with 14 years of experience, She has worked as a classroom and special programs teacher and has coordinated learning and support for children with additional needs. Her current role is in supporting students with trauma.

As Unlock Learning and Health's director, Kellie also works as an educational consultant and neurodevelopmental therapist.

Kellie can identify what's really behind your child's challenges!
Over 7 years ago, Kellie began to question what was causing more and more students to struggle academically, socially and emotionally. She discovered the importance of having a mature central nervous system for learning and functioning. She also came to learn about retained primitive reflexes and how they can interfere with an individual's ability.
Kellie trained in Move to Learn, Rhythmic Movement and became a licensed practitioner of the INPP method. These neurodevelopmental programs address Neuromotor Immaturity and serve to mature an individual's nervous system through sensory and primitive reflex integration. This approach ensures a child's brain and body are 'wired up' to support functioning and learning.

Why work with Kellie?

She;
  • understands where your child's difficulties stem from
  • will meet your child where they are at developmentally
  • can help improve functioning and learning readiness
  • has helped over 100 kids just like yours

Is a Neurodevelopmental therapist the same as an
Occupational therapist?

The short answer is no. There are some similarities and this is why many people think that Kellie is an occupational therapist. However, her neurodevelopmental approach is different to occupational therapy (OT).

OT aims to develop, recover or maintain meaningful activities or specific skills. Neurodevelopmental therapy is a primitive reflex inhibition and sensory integration program. It is a bottom-up approach to address Neuromotor Immaturity and ensures the foundations in the brain are stable for future learning and skill acquisition to build upon.

Many of our clients have tried several other therapies including OT before finding us. Often, their difficulties have persisted. This can be because retained primitive reflexes were overlooked and hence, the immaturity in the individual's nervous system was not addressed. Immaturity at the root cause must be treated, otherwise it will continue to pose challenges for an individual.

Kellie prides herself on understanding the root cause of the problem and being able to offer the right type of therapy to get real results.
